“That fucking Ukrainian fennel fired at our tank,” the young soldier said to his cellphone camera. “Koper” in Russian slang means “Nazis”, as Russian propaganda stubbornly calls Ukrainians. The young soldier was crouched in the car and the camera lens pointed towards the street. You can see destroyed houses, bombed tanks and civilian vehicles. Then a change of scenery: a few soldiers. They all wear a Russian “Z” on their sleeves and stand in a cul-de-sac.
What looks like a cheap Russian action movie is the reality of Russian soldier Anatoly Dremov, sometimes posing as Artjom Dremov, also known by his pseudonym god of dreams – “God with us”. Dremow is 25 years old and comes from Saint-Petersburg. Sometimes he pretends to be the owner of a bistro. Sometimes he works in a tobacco shop. Maybe both are true. Maybe neither is true. In any case, this is what he says on his Telegram channel, which has 48,000. subscribers. The channel unwittingly shows how bad the state and morale of the Russian army is.
The pre-war photo shows Dremov on the banks of the Neva in front of the Kazan Cathedral in designer Western clothes, with fries and glasses. He spent time with friends in clubs and restaurants. He was smoking a shisha. A typical St. Petersburg boy. Branch. He is not a fan of the national balalaika. But Dremov says he has already traveled to Lugansk and Donetsk to fight a “fair fight”.

“The war with Ukraine has returned after an eight-year hiatus,” Dremow said in a video on Telegram shortly after the war began. Two soldiers stand next to him. Previously, he wrote stories on Instagram, but since the service was blocked by Russian authorities, he limited himself to his Telegram channel. Many of his films end with the words “God is with us”. He said them as he spoke, Russian troops tried to surround Kyiv, Kharkiv and Mykolaiv. Dremow claimed he was there.
The soldier apparently moves on various fronts somewhere in the east, no one knows exactly where. There are rumors in Russian social media that it is near Kharkiv. Others say it is near Mariupol.
Dremow eats, cooks and drinks tea with companions in strange apartments. It all looks like a war diary. He talks about Ukrainian “Nazis”. About the war crimes that Ukraine allegedly committed against the inhabitants of Donbass. Dremow seems to have been treated by Russian propaganda for years. He is not alone in this case. Many of his comrades are doing the same, creating their own Telegram channels and reporting on the war in the country. Dremow advertises it.
March 16. Dremow is located in an unidentified Ukrainian town. In front of the building, Russian soldiers recover what they stole. Eight different wigs, jewelry, tablets, laptops. Even the toilet paper holders. Looking surprised, Dremow said to his friend: “The fact that every house has a toilet, or even two, it’s crazy.” A comrade, a chubby soldier with a short haircut, nods. Dremow is convinced that Russian troops will occupy Kyiv.
US estimates say about 7 thousand. killed out of 150 thousand. Russian soldiers and even 14,000 injured.
Dremov does not hide why he came to Ukraine. In a live coverage in mid-March, he spoke about this conflict – thousands of people participate in his coverage. Dremow, as he himself says, is not about fame or money. He repeats the propaganda layers: that he wants his family to live under the “peaceful Russian sky”to make her sisters and Dasha’s niece feel safe in St. Petersburg.
The Ukrainians rebuke him in the chat, and the Russian audience applauds him. Many hearts and likes fly across the screen. Dremow then pauses as if he were a seasoned rhetorician. And he breathes bluntly: “For the sake of Dasha, I am ready to kill a hundred of these Ukrainian children and their mothers. It’s worth it.” He believes that he is fighting for the Russian nation against the Ukrainian “Nazis”, who in his world can simply be wiped off the map.
Later, in another video, he shows the scooter he bought for his niece.
Take control of “trophies”. He suggests sending letters of wishes to his sister Wiktoria Nowikowa. At the same time, he asks his supporters for donations of medicines and equipment. It displays receipts again and again. 35 Homestreet sleeping bags: 35,000 rubles, or just under 500 euros. Motorola radio: 260,000 rubles, or about 3.7 thousand. euro. His sister’s donation account is public – part of the Russian army is said to depend on donations and looting. Dremow asks for it almost every day. On Telegram, this is not an isolated case.
On March 24, he contacted subscribers again. He looked war-scarred. Sweaty. Her hair was greasy. She seemed to be at the end of her life. He spoke quickly. He was stuttering. “It was tight these days. We lost our comrades,” he tells the camera. “We are moving forward. You will hear less of me. You will see me less. I cannot reveal where we are.” His messages became fewer and fewer. Later, Dremow was seen during a medical examination. Then in a Russian town. A vacation on the front line. With my niece in the park, in Saint Petersburg, far from Donbass and Ukraine. Nobody knows what happened in the meantime. He didn’t say anything about it. Was his unit destroyed? Did they have to withdraw? Has the mission been cancelled? No answer. The silence. Dead silence.
Beginning April 1, shorter Dremow posts began to appear. He again asked for financial support, this time clearly for his unit. He recommended TikTok streams to his colleagues. Sometimes he posted a photo with a young recruit or with his niece. In mid-April it was reactivated. As he claimed, he suffered a slight trauma. Still a little lame. However, he was ready to return to combat. To Ukraine.
Dremow on a tank. With a blond wig on her head, she dances in someone else’s apartment, looted by Russian soldiers. He writes: “Before entering the houses of these Ukrainian Nazis, let us at least take off our shoes. Russian politeness!” Expulsion and plunder: new Russian politeness.
As the Russian army announced successes and everything seemed to be going according to plan, the first comrades of the Dremov unit perished. He wrote about one of his deceased colleagues: “God is with him! Rest in peace ! “.
Dremow is clearly dissatisfied now. In the days following the war, he grew in frustration and anger, mainly from Chechens, soldiers of Ramzan Kadyrov and Chechens.
I believe that Ramzan Kadyrov’s troops are useless soldiers. They only get in the way on the battlefield. They’re just unshaven monkeys. You can’t even consider them people
– he said in the video. Like Dremow, many people in Russia think of people from the Asian part of Russia. They are “cannon fodder” in their eyes.
On April 14, Dremow posted the following message on Telegram: “If our warship ‘Moscow’ really sinks, we’re screwed…. That’s very bad news. In every way. It starts with the symbolism of the name.”
On April 26, his unit was on the hill. The camera pans across the valley. Bullets hit bare ground. Dremow runs towards his companions. One of them raises his hand. It almost sounds like a Nazi salute. The other does the same.
On May 4, five days before the Victory Parade in Moscow, Dremov posted another video. He was back in the strange apartment, the carpet in the background. The Russian companion was eating millet from a pot. “To defeat Ukrainian Nazism, we must become Nazis ourselves,” he says. He speaks more mechanically than usual. “Copras are useless on planet Earth. Their language and culture must disappear from the face of the earth. God is with us.”
On May 9, Dremov expressed his disappointment with Putin’s speech on the anniversary of the end of World War II. According to him, the president spoke too rarely about Russia. It is certainly not enough to talk about the war in which they participate. Dremow does not understand why this war is not called a war and why Putin does not order universal mobilization. But Putin, despite – as he proves – his “little mistakes”, remains for him the best president in the world.
After this event, the Russian did not give any sign of life for a long time. He only reappeared on May 26: in a published video, Dremow was seen in action. Dremow with branches. Dremow near the reservoir. Another Russian soldier shouts, “God is with us and billions of Chinese, motherfuckers!” Recording ends. That day, Russian troops captured the town of Lyman.
A few days later, Dremow wrote two short sentences in the chat: “Keep investing your money. Our situation is very difficult right now. But God is with us.”
